*Bootleg Brewery was born in 2016 out of a love for beer and a belief that kiwis deserved the best craft beer in the world.*
Bootleggers faced adversity 100 years ago and responded with innovation. We have applied this same spirit in crafting our beers since 2016 and into supporting independent breweries and the communities that surround them.

For too long New Zealand’s beer market has been dominated by brewing giants who have forgotten that great beer does not all taste the same.

So we brewed our Apehanger IPA and it won Best Strong Pale Ale at The Brewers Guild Awards in 2017. Kiwis were drinking Apehanger faster than we could brew it! It proved that kiwis are hungry for great beer - just like us.

We have carried this successful philosophy forward in brewing our wide range of unique Craft Beers. To date we have successfully brewed more than 40 signature craft beers to rave reviews and several awards.

*In august 2020 Bootleg Brewery opened its own microbrewery and taproom in the historic Matangi Dairy Factory near Hamilton. Its a place for the community to enjoy great beer together all year round.*
